10 Ways to Live A More Positive Life
During this time in our lives when the world has gone crazy, we have to remain positive — even when there may not seem to be any positivity around us. In that case, you have to be the one to take the initiative and be positive for not only yourself but your family, friends, and anyone else you may come in contact with.
On any given day, you can either choose one of two things: 1) to have a good day or 2) let everything that goes “wrong” ruin it. For instance, I am a klutz and every morning I either spill my fountain pop from Casey’s, forget my lunch or something of the sort… Every day. Somedays I get angry at that fact and maybe some curse words slip out of my mouth. But at that moment, I have learned to laugh when it happens because it is so crazy how we can let one small thing ruin our whole day. (2 minutes of your 24 hours) That is INSANE to me.
So, I started looking at my whole life that way. You choose your happiness and other people can feed off of that positivity you give. Personally, would you rather spend your day with someone who complains about many small things or be with someone that is bubbly, laughs often, and just chooses to be a better person. Be that person that YOU would want to hang out with. It is truly not hard to go through life with a smile on your face because even when we are stuck in a whirlpool of worry, anxiety, fear, and negativity — you can choose to be different. Choose to be the light at the end of the tunnel, someone that everyone can look up to because they want that energy.
I get the question a lot, “How are you so full of energy and bubbly all the time?!” … and while maybe some of that has to do with the caffeine running through my bloodstream 24/7 — it also has to do with my change in mindset. Here are 10 ways that have helped me get to where I am today and how I look at life just a little bit differently.
1. Get Up Earlier Than Normal
Wake up just a little bit earlier than normal. This will help you have more time in the morning to relax, get ready, make your bed, and say your morning prayers. After all, how your morning goes will determine how the rest of your day will be.
2. Focus On the Good Things
There is no such thing as “a perfect day”. You will go through obstacles throughout your day, but always focus on what GOOD came out of the day… A promotion, a hug, seeing your parents, a home-cooked meal, seeing an old friend, the weather being nice, anything! Especially during a time like this in quarantine, we have to focus on the good. Maybe all this time with your young one is a good thing, you are getting more done around the house, finishing unfinished projects finally. (I know personally for me, it gives me more time to work on myself, my house, and my blog.)
3. Find the Humor In Bad Situations
Just like I had mentioned earlier with my Casey’s fountain pop, I have to laugh at how clumsy I am because what good will being mad do for me??? Mad at the cup for being slippery? Mad at myself for having butter fingers!? It does no good. Laugh through those times to get you through the day. It is a huge game-changer.
4. Failures Become Lessons Learned
In life, I have had many fails personally. But, I love to admit that I have learned a valuable lesson out of all of them. I smiled through and remembered that at least I have those to look back on and I will not make the same mistake twice. Failures can sometimes be the best lesson you will ever learn in life — because ya won’t ever forget it. Be thankful for these failures.
5. Read Positive Quotes
This may seem silly, but it has helped me a lot. Simply by going onto Pinterest and typing in “Positive Life Quotes” and reading those daily, really help fire me up and make me WANT to have an amazing day.
6. Surround Yourself with Positive People
This is HUGE! Without this step, it is impossible. Be around people who truly want to see you be happy and successful. Don’t hang around people who don’t want to see you succeed. In life, you go through a cycle of friends — but once you are out of elementary school, you can CHOOSE your friends. Choose right, because they will determine how you act, what you think of yourself, and more importantly what you think of others. Let that sink in.
7. Listen to Happy & Positive Music
Whenever I am having an off day I get in my car and I crank up the song “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer
My day is instantly better because music like that can speak to you! So, I challenge you to create a playlist with positive music with songs like that & listen to it on the way to work, after work, to go to school, or whenever you need it!
8. Have Something to Look Forward to Everyday
Whether you are a mom, student, dad, or grandparent — always try to have something to look forward to with your day. It can be as simple as a wine night with your wife/husband or girlfriends, movie & popcorn with friends, or alone time for yourself. But always have something that can help you get through that 9 to 5 job or that 8 hour day of classes. This plays a huge role in your mental status and helps you balance life with reality.
9. Stop Worrying About What Others Think
Easier said than done, but seriously. Work on this one. Who cares what he or she said, who cares what they think about you, who cares how many likes you get on that picture or what you wear. It’s your life, do not let someone else try to control it. My favorite quote from Pinterest that I live by is “Be so busy loving your life that you have no time for doubt, worry, hate or fear.”
Read that over & over again.
10. Always Remember, You Decide How You Live Your Life
In the end, the choice is ultimately yours. What kind of life do you want to live? Are you jealous of someone else’s life…. Okay, use them to inspire you to live a greater life for yourself. The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. Remember, this life takes time — so start now.
