Trying Times

Currently, we are all facing some tough times. Some trying times. Some hard times. But through these tough times, we need to remain optimistic and positive.

Let’s look back on 2020 thus far:

8 months deep, a pandemic, coin shortage, the ultimate “Tiger King” dilemma, looting, and an Iowa Hurricane. (ODD) All scary, NEW, and unfamiliar.

If I had a penny for every-time someone referred to 2020 as the worst year ever, I would be a millionaire… and I too would have contributed to the pile. Every time I went somewhere that required a mask to wear, I would say something along the lines of how COVID-19 has ruined our lives, or how different the world is… But lately, I have been trying to find the good in things rather than the bad, or what I would like to call “what the media doesn't like to show.” Because Lord only knows, they tend to show more bad than good.

So here is what I have found to be good through each trying time:

The Pandemic:

Everyone has cleaner hands, an excuse to stay in and save money, more time spent with family, home projects have either started or have been completed, and interest rates were low! (Totally took advantage of that when buying our house!)

Coin Shortage:

Okay, let be honest, I never really carry around cash/coins anyways so this has not yet affected me. (Coins are dirty though!?)

Tiger King:

Some of the BEST Tik Tok’s came out of this Tiger King ordeal, and suddenly everyone owns cheetah now?! Tiger King took our minds off of things, and gave us a reason to laugh!

Protesting & Looting:

While I didn’t agree with the burning and destroying of property, I fully understood and encouraged the people who peacefully protested. Protests are good, standing up for what you believe in is good, and hearing/listening to others is good.

Iowa Hurricane (aka Derecho):

This is a fresh topic as it just happened on Monday, and while many things were destroyed, power was off, and crops were ruined - so many communities have come together to pick up this tragic mess. People are there for each other and the power of prayer has been intense. Also, for the people who wanted a new car - may be a tree fell on it? ;)

Sometimes it is hard to look at the positives or to find the good in life. But there is a lot more good out there if you find it. Sometimes, you have to create it yourself. Choose happy everyone, and have a great rest of your week!

“I always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but I am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter.” - Walt Disney
